Greetings! I’m Richard, your guide in Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts and Health & Fitness. With over 40 years of coaching experience, approaching the age of 60, I’ve incorporated a lifetime of lessons into refining coaching systems at Fortress. I advocate for a direct, no-nonsense approach, incorporating only what positively impacts your martial arts and fitness related journey.
Believing happiness is life’s ultimate goal, I’ve navigated challenges, learned from mistakes, and cultivated an unwavering commitment to personal growth. Here are a few facets of my journey:

Greetings, I’m Rici, your coach in Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Fortress Academy. With over 25 years of training in various martial arts disciplines, my journey began in Olympic-style Taekwondo at the age of 7. Since then, I’ve embraced kickboxing, Thai boxing, MMA, BJJ, and freestyle wrestling.
I proudly hold a Black Belt in kickboxing recognized by the largest independent multi-style martial arts association in the UK. Additionally, I’m a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt and possess a Level 1 coaching award from the British Wrestling Association, the governing body for Olympic styles of wrestling in the UK.
Academically, I hold an MA in drama studies from De Montfort University, reflecting my commitment to personal development. Training 4-5 days a week, I prioritize both mental and physical health. Beyond coaching, my interests include studying languages, indulging in nature walks, and exploring diverse cultures—I’ve visited over 20 countries.
My life philosophy combines Zen and stoic principles, emphasizing ‘being in and enjoying the moment.’ As Bruce Lee aptly put it, “Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending in the wind.” Firm on goals yet flexible in approach—I look forward to welcoming you soon.

Hello, I’m Bren, your Kickboxing and MMA coach at Fortress Academy. Beyond my martial arts expertise, I’m a multi-award-winning site manager in house building. I proudly hold a Nationally recognized Black Belt in Kickboxing and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, showcasing my commitment to diverse martial arts disciplines.
My journey in personal development began early, excelling in competitive swimming for 12 years and captaining the team. At 15, I completed my first triathlon and continued as an adult, consistently ranking in the top quarter for my age group. Over a decade, I competed in long-distance running, achieving sub-7-minute miles.
In the realm of combat sports, I successfully participated in full-contact kickboxing, K1, and submission grappling, earning various medals, trophies, and an area title belt. With a keen interest in weightlifting, I regularly challenge myself in fitness events at Fortress Academy.
As a family man, I find joy in music, playing the guitar, cooking, and walking my dog. My life philosophies include giving your best in every task, not wasting time on unnecessary worries, maintaining a positive mindset, and learning from mistakes.
